Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana DOC

An Etna Rosso that sounds more like Burgundy than Sicily: light in color, slender in build, and full of tension. The Calderara Sottana from Bella-Colonna comes from one of the most famous contrade on the northern slope of Mount Etna.

The vines of the Nerello Mascalese variety grow there on black lava rock. The winery works organically, and the wine is certified as organic. The soil of volcanic origin noticeably shapes the character, and the careful aging preserves the clarity of the fruit.

On the nose, red cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate appear, along with floral scent, fine herbal spice, and a distinct volcanic minerality. On the palate, it feels fresh and precise, the acidity is fine, and the tannins are silky. The finish remains long and mineral.

Recommendation: Serve it at 16 to 18 °C, preferably in a large Burgundy glass. It pairs well with duck breast, rabbit with herbs, pasta with mushrooms, or mature Pecorino.
