Eagles' Nest Vineyards Shiraz

Eagles' Nest Vineyards Shiraz
A Shiraz from Constantia — that is not a given. The peninsula south of Cape Town is known for its cool sea breezes, and that is exactly what you feel in the glass: instead of the heavy, alcohol-driven fruit of warmer growing regions, this wine shows a more elegant side of the grape variety.
Eagles' Nest is located on the slopes of Table Mountain National Park, high above the Atlantic. The winery is one of the smaller, focused estates in the Constantia region that have specialized in a few grape varieties — Shiraz is their flagship.
In the glass, dark blackberry and black plum, accompanied by violets and a hint of smoke. On the palate, red cherry joins in, giving the wine a certain lightness. The tannins are well-integrated and not intrusive, the finish shows an invigorating freshness — typical for the cool coastal location.
Pairs well with leg of lamb with rosemary, grilled merguez, or a strong goat cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
