Dernauer Pfarrwingert Spätburgunder GG
The Pfarrwingert vineyard in Dernau bears its name for good reason: the Catholic parish church still owns this plot of land. What sounds like church history is, above all, an exceptional location.
For decades, Meyer-Näkel has been one of the leading producers of Pinot Noir in the Ahr region. The family cultivates their steep slopes with a focus on terroir expression—and the Pfarrwingert vineyard provides ideal conditions for this: southern exposure, a steep slope, and soil composed of greywacke, a granular, scree-like sediment with fragments of clay slate. This material warms up quickly, retains heat, and imparts its characteristic minerality to the wine.
In the glass, the Pinot Noir displays dark forest fruits—blackberry, black cherry—underpinned by earthy minerality, floral aromas, and a hint of eucalyptus. Subtle tea notes and a cool spiciness lend the wine complexity. The aging in new oak is noticeable but not intrusive: the oak integrates seamlessly without overpowering the fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish.
Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Drinking window: now until 2030+. Pairs well with venison fillet with wild cranberries, braised lamb shoulder or mature Époisses.
