Spätburgunder Kräuterberg GG
The Kräuterberg is one of the best sites in the Ahr valley — and Meyer-Näkel consistently produces one of the most characterful Pinot Noirs in Germany from this steep slope.
The Werner Näkel winery has been among the pioneers of German red wine production since the 1980s. Today, his daughter Meike Näkel continues to run the Ahrweiler estate with the same precision: working the steep slopes by hand, selective harvesting, and aging in barriques. The Kräuterberg vineyard—a slate site with a southern exposure—provides the foundation for this Grand Cru.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of preserved sour cherry, charcoal smoke, and a cool spiciness reminiscent of fresh herbs and a hint of mocha. On the palate, it is dense and powerful: broad structure, velvety yet noticeably astringent tannins, and an invigorating freshness in the background. The finish is long—smoky cherry fruit lingers for a while. Complex, deep, with real tension.
Serving suggestion: Now with some aeration, or better from 2026–2032. Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Pairs well with venison fillet with wild mushrooms, braised leg of lamb, or mature Époisses.
