Cuvée Wilhelm limestone marl dry QW Palatinate 0.75L

The Cuvée Wilhelm Kalkmergel is a red wine from the Palatinate that literally bears its name: calcareous marl soil shapes the character of this cuvée with a mineral vein that steers the Cabernet Sauvignon in a cooler, more structured direction than one is used to from warmer growing regions.

The Wageck Pfaffmann winery is one of the established addresses in the southern Palatinate, a region that offers optimal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon due to its mild climate and diverse soil structures. The calcareous marl gives the wine a firm mineral base and keeps the acidity lively.

In the glass, dark berry fruit appears — blackberry and cassis — with a subtle herbal note and a trace of graphite in the background. The tannins are present but not coarse, the finish dry and long with a mineral aftertaste.

Best served at 16–18 °C with hearty meat dishes: leg of lamb with rosemary, roast beef, or mature hard cheese. Those who decant it give it the time to open up completely.
