Coppo »Pomorosso« Nizza - from 6 bottles in a wooden crate 0.75L

The »Pomorosso« is Coppo's flagship Barbera from Piedmont — a wine that shows what this grape variety can achieve when approached seriously: dark fruit, depth, and a structure that goes far beyond the everyday.

The Coppo winery in Canelli is one of the oldest and most famous houses in the Asti area. For generations, the family has worked to show the Barbera grape in its full complexity — the »Pomorosso«, named after one of the family's best vineyards, stands for this claim. The Nizza DOCG, an independent denomination since 2014, is considered the core of the best Barbera sites in Monferrato.

It glows deep ruby red in the glass. The nose opens with blackberry, dark cherry, and violets, underneath tobacco, clove, and a hint of leather. On the palate, the structure typical of Nizza shows: full body, ripe, well-integrated tannins; the lively acidity of the Barbera carries the wine through a long, spicy finish.

Serve it at 16–18 °C with game terrines, braised beef shoulder, or aged Pecorino. Those who open it for a special occasion would do well to decant it at least an hour beforehand — this gives it time to fully unfold.
