Château Chantalouette AC Pomerol 0.75L
Pomerol is one of the smallest and most idiosyncratic appellations in Bordeaux — no Château classification system, but heavy clay soils and Merlot as the lead grape variety. The Château Chantalouette stands for exactly this appellation: a dry red wine that shows the typical warmth and fullness of the right bank without appearing clumsy.
The winery is located in the heart of Pomerol, where the clay ensures slow water extraction for the vines and thus concentrated fruit. Merlot-dominated cuvées from this site develop characteristically velvety tannins and a dark fruit depth — blackberry, plum, a hint of licorice, and subtle earthy notes, as imparted by the Pomerol soil. The finish is warm and persistent.
At the table, the Chantalouette goes well with braised meat, entrecôte, or a hearty cassoulet. It also stands up to aged Comté or Époisses. Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C — take it out of the cellar an hour before pouring so it can properly unfold in the glass.
