Château Castera Cru Bourgeois Médoc

A classic Médoc with character: deep garnet red, structured tannins and a vinification process that showcases the wine both young and with some maturity.

Château Castera boasts a history dating back to 900 AD—among its owners in the 16th century was Thomas de Montaigne, brother of the philosopher Michel de Montaigne. The modern era began in 1922 when M. Degonde purchased the estate, followed by its first Cru Bourgeois classification in 1932. Since 1986, Dieter Tondera has managed the winery with the support of oenologist J.-L. Boissenot; in 2003, it was upgraded to Cru Bourgeois Supérieur . The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately according to grape variety and parcel. A three-week, temperature-controlled maceration with daily pump-overs maximizes color and aromatic depth. The wine is then aged for twelve months in French oak barriques, 20–30% of which are new.

In the glass, a deep, brilliant garnet red. The nose initially offers notes of toast and cedar, followed by sour cherry, almonds, and a hint of undergrowth. On the palate, fresh cherry fruit, well-integrated tannins, medium body with a round, balanced finish.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, entrecôte with herb butter, or mature Comté cheese. Drinking window 2024–2029.

Château Castera

Château Castera is located in the Médoc – that narrow strip of land north of Bordeaux which has been one of the world's most important wine regions for centuries. The estate holds the coveted Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status, placing it among the very best in its class.

What emerges here are wines with depth and character: classically Bordeaux, but never stuffy. Whether the powerful Médoc, the fresh Bordeaux Blanc Anthoinette , or the ambitious Les Essais line – Castera demonstrates that tradition and a spirit of discovery complement each other beautifully.
