Chardonnay Collio Livon DOC Friuli-Venezia Giulia 0.75L

A Chardonnay that shows what Friuli can do: mineral-driven, with clear structure and without the buttery heaviness known from warmer growing regions.

The Livon winery is one of the best-known addresses in Collio, one of Italy's most renowned white wine regions right on the Slovenian border. The grapes for this Chardonnay grow on the steep slopes of Ruttars in the municipality of Dolegna del Collio — on the so-called Ponca, an alternation of marl and sandstone that gives the wines of Collio their characteristic minerality and freshness. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand.

In the glass, yellow apple, white pear, and a hint of citrus zest appear, underscored by a fine chalkiness left by the Ponca soil. The wine is dry, with lively acidity and a clean, persistent finish.

Good with grilled sea bass, pasta with seafood, or a mild goat cheese. Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C.
