Cal Y Canto Tinto

Dark ruby ​​red in the glass, juicy and direct — the Cal Y Canto Tinto is the wine you open when the evening should be relaxed, but still make a statement.

Bodegas Campoameno produces this red wine in the Spanish wine region of Murcia, where a continental climate with hot days and cool nights gives the grapes both ripeness and freshness. The name says it all: cal y canto — limestone and stone — describes the mineral-rich, barren soils on which the vines grow and which give the wine its spicy character.

The nose offers clear and clean aromas of blackberry and sour cherry, along with white pepper and a subtle hint of tobacco in the background. On the palate, it displays a medium body with juicy, vibrant fruit – the acidity is present enough to provide freshness without being harsh. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, the finish round, briefly spicy, and without any harsh edges. This isn't a wine that overwhelms you with complexity, but one that is impeccably crafted. The silver medal at the 2010 Berlin Wine Trophy in its category confirms this.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C, best enjoyed young. Pairs well with grilled lamb chops, chorizo ​​from a plank, robust Manchego cheese, or a simple tomato and pepper stew. Also a great choice as an uncomplicated accompaniment to tapas evenings.
