Brunello di Montalcino DOCG - organic
Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's great red wines—powerful, long-lasting, and unmistakably Tuscan. This organic Brunello demonstrates what Sangiovese Grosso can achieve on the calcareous marl soils south of Montalcino: depth without heaviness, structure without harshness.
Montalcino lies in the southern Siena hills, where hot summers and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen slowly. Sangiovese Grosso—traditionally called Brunello here—is the only permitted grape variety of the DOCG, and organic farming allows the soil characteristics of these vineyards to shine through particularly clearly in the glass.
In the glass, it displays a classic Brunello profile: sour cherry and red currant, underpinned by tobacco, leather, and a hint of dried herbs. The tannins are ripe and firm, the acidity lively without being sharp, and the finish long and spicy. With a little aeration, it opens up considerably—30–45 minutes of decanting is recommended.
Drinking window now until 2035. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. At the table, it pairs well with braised beef, venison ragù on pappardelle or aged Pecorino di Pienza.
