Barbaresco "Valeirano" DOCG
Three Cru vineyards, three strong characters — the Valeirano is Giorgio Rivetti's most concentrated expression of Barbaresco. Dark berry tones, meaty depth and a long, richly structured finish make it a wine that does not hide.
Rivetti is considered one of the defining figures of the so-called Barolo Boys, that generation of Piedmontese winemakers who redefined the image of Nebbiolo in the 1990s. His winery La Spinetta is located in the Astigiano, his roots run deep into Piedmont — from Moscato d'Asti as a house wine to three Barbaresco Crus, which he consistently develops as single-vineyard wines. For the Barbaresco label, Rivetti chose Albrecht Dürer's rhinoceros: an animal full of primal power that captures the style of these wines perfectly.
In the glass, the Valeirano shows dark blackberry and black cherry, underpinned by spicy, slightly tobacco-like tones, as developed by mature Nebbiolo from the hills of Neive. The tannin is remarkably soft for the grape variety, the body dense and meaty, the finish long and warm.
Pairs with braised beef, game ragù or aged Castelmagno. Drinking temperature: 17–18 °C, served in a large Burgundy glass.
