The Artichoke Elixir from Dr. Jaglas is a German herbal spirit with a clear profile: tart, spicy, and characterized by the artichoke. Regional artichokes serve as the basis, supplemented by a long recipe of bitter herbs, roots, flowers, and spices.

Gentian, centaury, angelica root, galangal rhizome, zedoary root, and cinchona bark form the bitter base. Cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon bark, and cloves bring warmth; bitter orange peel and citronella add a citrus note; lavender and juniper provide a floral-resinous side. A hint of saffron rounds it off.

In the glass, the tartness of the artichoke meets spicy warmth and citrus peel; in the end, a herbal finish remains.
