Alzero Cabernet Cabernet IGP

The Alzero from Giuseppe Quintarelli is no ordinary Cabernet Franc—it is created using the same appassimento method that Quintarelli applies to his legendary Amarone: the grapes are dried for about a month before they are fermented. Subsequently, the wine ages for eight years in large wooden barrels. The result is a red wine from the Veneto of extraordinary density and complexity.

On the nose, it shows dried plum, ripe sour cherry, and fig, underscored by cinnamon, a hint of marzipan, and subtle herbal notes. In the mouth, fresh acidity carries the wine, fine-grained tannins provide structure, and the cherry fruit remains present until the long, spicy finish. No artificial wood tone—the aging is fully integrated.

Pairs well with braised beef, game ragù, or an aged Pecorino. Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Feel free to open or decant the bottle an hour beforehand—the wine opens up significantly with air.
