Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial
Red fruit prelude, floral notes, a hint of eucalyptus and cedar wood — the Selección Especial from Abadía Retuerta shows what Tempranillo from the Castilian highlands can achieve when location and craftsmanship match.
The winery is located in the heart of Castile, around a monastery from the 12th century. Since 1991, 54 individual vineyard plots have been replanted on a total of 700 hectares of land — each site with the variety that best exploits its potential. Remarkable: a forgotten vineyard from 1887 survived the phylloxera catastrophe and still bears own-rooted vines today. Sustainability is not a marketing term, but lived practice: reforestation, bird of prey settlement, and targeted promotion of beneficial insects are part of everyday life on the estate.
In the glass, a wine with a clear, complex nose is revealed: red fruits, caramel, cedar wood, and a fresh eucalyptus touch. On the palate, soft and balanced, with lively acidity and ripe, silky tannins. The finish is long and pleasant.
Served at 16–18 °C, it pairs well with leg of lamb with a herb crust, Iberico pork belly, or a hearty Manchego. Also a good companion for evenings when a glass of red wine should speak for itself.
