45 Rugientes Merlot - Organic
A Merlot from Patagonia that shows how far south Argentina still produces serious red wine: cool, precise, with a freshness that one rarely expects from this grape variety.
Bodega Otronia is located in the Río Negro Valley, one of the southernmost wine-growing regions in the world. The extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night ensure slow ripening and distinct aromatics — this is reflected in the glass. The 45 Rugientes bears its name after the "Roaring Forties," the stormy westerly winds that characterize these latitudes. Organically certified vineyards, barren soils, short growing season.
On the nose, red fruit, quince, and a clear pull of sweet bell pepper and black pepper — plus a cool menthol accent that immediately distinguishes the wine from softer, warmer Merlots. On the palate, lively and fresh, with an elegant, balanced finish without heavy residual warmth.
Serve it at 16–17 °C with lamb chops with herb crust, grilled vegetables, or a spicy lentil stew. It also cuts a fine figure as an uncomplicated companion to a cheese platter with Manchego.
