What began in 1966 as an import initiative for Mediterranean specialties is today one of the most established German trading houses for Ibero-Mediterranean food. Moreno GmbH is based in Bornheim in the Rhineland, not far from Bonn, and has been bringing wines, delicatessen, and trend products from Southern Europe to German shelves from there for over six decades. The name Moreno is not a marketing construct: Margarita Moreno Lopez appears in the commercial register as managing director — the company still carries its Iberian origin in its name to this day.
Direct import instead of intermediaries: Bodega partnerships as the backbone
The principle of Moreno is consistent: wines from Spain and Portugal are selected directly at the bodegas and imported into Germany as a direct importer. Long-standing, grown supplier relationships are intended to ensure that quality remains stable and the origin is traceable. The company supplies the food retail sector, cash-and-carry markets, and the catering industry alike — logistics and warehousing are handled via the Bornheim location.
The same principle applies to the delicatessen range: olive oils come directly from Spain as cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, and ham specialties such as Serrano and Ibérico are sourced from established Iberian producers. The fact that Moreno's wines are regularly represented at the international tasting fair Mundus Vini points to a professional purchasing approach that goes beyond pure volume trading.
Iberian wines, delicatessen, and Mediterranean breadth
At the center of the range are Spanish and Portuguese wines, supplemented by Cava, Sherry, and Sangría. In addition, there is a wide range of delicatessen: olive oils — including the single-varietal O de Oliva Arbequina from Murcia with its characteristically mild, fruity profile —, Ibérico ham, chorizo, fuet, cheese, olives, and seafood.
