Cramele Recas –
Character wines from the Romanian Banat
Cramele Recas is located in western Romania, in the Banat region, where the Pannonian Plain meets the foothills of the Carpathians. Since 1998, the winery has been cultivating nearly 1,000 hectares of vines – one of the largest contiguous vineyard areas in Romania. The soils range from loamy alluvial soils in the plains to more mineral-rich hillside sites, which allows the estate to plant each grape variety where it thrives best.
In the cellar, Cramele Recas works with modern cellar technology without losing the connection to the fruit: precise temperature control, varietal-specific work, clear stylistics. The result is wines with recognizable character – from fresh Sauvignon Blanc with notes of lemongrass to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with dark berry fruit. Rosés and international grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio or Feteasca Regala, an indigenous Romanian variety, are also part of the range.
Sustainability is not a marketing promise, but part of the operational concept: water efficiency, reduction of pesticides, and social responsibility toward employees in the region stand on equal footing with wine quality. Anyone who wants to get to know Romanian wine beyond clichés will find a reliable entry point here.
