Flor de Caña –
Rum from the volcano, family-owned since 1890
Flor de Caña is produced at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano in Nicaragua – and has been in the hands of the Solórzano family since 1890. The rum distilled here contains 0.0 g/l sugar and no artificial additives whatsoever: it is exactly as it emerges from the barrel and the climate, without any subsequent corrections.
Compania Licorera de Nicaragua is the first and, to date, only spirits brand worldwide to be both Fairtrade-certified and officially carbon-neutral. Since 2005, over 800,000 trees have been planted – a concrete program, not just a promise on paper. The brand aims to reach the one million mark by 2025.
In the glass, Flor de Caña reveals the effects of slow maturation in a tropical climate: vanilla, dried fruit, and a smooth, lingering finish. Whether enjoyed neat over ice or as the base for a classic Rum Sour, the possibilities are vast, yet its character remains recognizable.
