Bobby's Gin —
a family recipe between the Moluccas and Amsterdam
Bobby's Gin isn't a product conceived on a drawing board, but a true family story: Grandfather Bobby Alfons emigrated from the Moluccas to the Netherlands and spiced his genever with the aromas of his homeland—lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, and cubeb peppers. A personal answer to homesickness, captured in a blend of spices.
Decades later, his grandsons Sebastiaan and David sat at the dinner table and wondered if the recipe could be revived. With the help of their aunt Betty, they reconstructed the Pinang Raci—the traditional spice blend that still gives the gin its distinctive character. The result was a gin that combines the Dutch genever tradition with Southeast Asian botanicals: spicy, aromatic, with a depth rarely found in classic London Dry gins.
Bobby's Gin goes just as well with a classic tonic with fresh ginger as it does with a Negroni, to which the cubeb pepper adds a pleasant spiciness.
