Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz HK

The Michael Shiraz from Wynns Coonawarra Estate is one of the icons of Australian red wine – a concentrated, age-worthy Shiraz from one of the coolest and most precise red wine regions on the continent.

Wynns has been cultivating vineyards in Coonawarra , the narrow strip of red terra rossa over limestone in southeastern South Australia, since 1891. The Michael Shiraz bears the name of David Wynn's youngest son and, since 1955, has only been bottled in vintages where the quality of the harvest justifies it – not a given, but a conscious decision by the cellar team.

In the glass, it displays the typical profile of a mature Coonawarra Shiraz: dark blackberry, black plum, and cassis jelly , underpinned by licorice, black pepper, and a clean oak framework from aging in American and French barriques. The body is dense, the tannins ripe and silky, the finish long with a mineral coolness that makes the region unmistakable.
