Pinot Blanc Retzstadt QW Franken 0.75L
A Pinot Blanc that shows what Franconia is capable of: structured, dry, with the mineral precision one expects from good village wines of this region.
Rudolf May cultivates his vineyards around Retzstadt organically. The grapes for this village wine come from a roughly 30-year-old vineyard in Altenberg – a single site that gives the wine a clear sense of origin. As a VDP.ORTSWEIN (VDP Village Wine), it represents a quality that surpasses the level of a simple estate wine, yet still retains the approachability of an everyday wine.
Pinot Blanc from Franconia typically develops ripe pear and white peach aromas, along with a subtle nuttiness and a firm, yet not harsh, acidity. The body is medium-bodied, the finish dry and straightforward – without unnecessary sweetness or cloying sweetness. This is precisely what makes it so versatile at the table.
Best served at 10–12 °C . Pairs well with Franconian pork shoulder, pan-fried pike-perch fillet, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a mature mountain cheese. Drink it young for its fruitiness; wait another one to two years for greater depth.
