Sergio Zingarelli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 0.75L
The flagship of Rocca delle Macìe bears the name of the company founder — and rightly so. The Sergio Zingarelli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione stands for the best that the winery has to offer from the heart of Tuscany: a strictly selected Sangiovese harvest that is classified into the highest quality level of the Chianti Classico DOCG pyramid.
Rocca delle Macìe was founded in 1973 by Sergio Zingarelli, a successful film producer from Milan who fell in love with the hills between Castellina and Siena. Today, the family continues to run the winery in the second generation — with around 500 hectares of total area, it is one of the more significant estates in the Classico area. The Gran Selezione is the crowning achievement of this work: exclusively from the best Sangiovese grapes of the estate, with the obligation for long aging that the DOCG standard prescribes for this category.
In the glass, the wine shows the classic Sangiovese signature of the zone: sour cherry, dried plum, and a hint of tobacco, underlaid by a fine herbal spice. The tannins are present but polished — the finish long and slightly mineral. Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C. At the table, it goes well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar salami, Pecorino Stagionato, or pasta with game ragù.
