Schwaigerner Ruthe Lemberger GG QW Württemberg 0.75L
The Schwaigerner Ruthe Lemberger Grosses Gewächs shows what Württemberg's most important red wine variety can achieve when location and skill come together.
The Graf Neipperg winery is one of Württemberg's most traditional estates—the family has cultivated its vineyards around Schwaigern for centuries. The Ruthe vineyard is one of the region's most prestigious single sites, characterized by Keuper marl soil, which gives the Lemberger its distinctive structure. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo traditional maceration; the wine then matures for 18 months in new and used barriques.
In the glass, it displays a dark ruby red color. The nose opens with blackberry, cassis, and a hint of violet, underpinned by cedarwood and a subtle smoky note from barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is dense and structured—ripe, firmly integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish with hints of black pepper and dark chocolate.
Best served between 16 and 18 °C . Pairs well with venison shank with cranberries, braised beef shoulder, or mature hard cheese. If opened now, decanting is recommended—it will easily remain drinkable until 2032.
