Schwaigerner Ruthe Lemberger GG QW Württemberg 0.75L

The Schwaigerner Ruthe Lemberger Großes Gewächs shows what Württemberg's most important red wine variety can achieve when site and skill meet.

The Graf Neipperg winery is one of the most traditional houses in Württemberg — the family has been cultivating their sites around Schwaigern for centuries. The Ruthe is one of the most renowned single vineyards in the region, characterized by Keuper marl, which gives the Lemberger its characteristic structure. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo traditional mash fermentation; subsequently, the wine matures for 18 months in new and used barrique barrels.

In the glass, it shows a dark ruby red. The nose opens with blackberry, cassis, and a hint of violets, underpinned by cedar wood and a subtle smoky note from the barrel aging. On the palate, the wine appears dense and structured — ripe, firmly integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish with hints of black pepper and dark chocolate.

Best served between 16 and 18 °C. Pairs with venison leg with cranberries, braised beef shoulder, or aged hard cheese. Anyone opening it now should decant it.
