Parapluie Syrah QW Austria 0.75L
Syrah from the Weinviertel is a rarity — and Rudolf Fidesser shows why the grape variety can find a home in this Lower Austrian region. The winery farms organically and specializes in wines with a clear signature of origin, far removed from polished, uniform wines.
In the glass, the Parapluie Syrah shows a deep ruby garnet with violet reflections. On the nose, it opens with dark blackberry, black pepper, and violets — the varietal-typical spice that makes Syrah so unmistakable is clearly perceptible here. This is joined by notes of ripe cherries and a fine mineral undertone that gives the wine depth. On the palate, it presents itself as dry and structured: the tannins are present but well-integrated and without hard edges. The acidity keeps everything in balance, the finish is long, slightly smoky, and with an aftertaste of dark spices.
A wine that can handle meat on the plate: leg of lamb with rosemary, braised beef cheeks, or a strongly spiced barbecue are ideal companions. It also cuts a fine figure with game dishes like venison ragout or a ripe hard cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
