Mitolo Winery

Mitolo – strong and gentle. That is the motto the family brought with them from the Abruzzo region to Australia. They arrived in the 1950s, holding fast to their roots: food, wine, family.

In 1999, Frank Mitolo and winemaker Ben Glaetzer met. Five hours of discussion, a business plan on the back of a napkin. Goal: McLaren Vale in its purest form. The first wine, G.A.M., was named after Frank's children.

Today, Mitolo works closely with the Loprestis – also Italian immigrants. Heavy clay soils, gentle sea breeze, hands-off in the cellar. Italian grape varieties, Italian heritage. And the motto: forte e gentile. Strong and gentle.
