Meerlust Red

Meerlust Red – a South African red wine that combines elegance and depth in a single glass. Whether as a discovery for wine novices or a reliable choice for experienced connoisseurs: this wine from the renowned Meerlust Estate in Stellenbosch strikes a chord.

In the glass, it shines a deep cherry red with violet reflections at the rim – a first hint of its complexity. The nose opens with powerful aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum, and exotic spices , underpinned by a delicate floral note. On the palate, it is well-balanced: medium-bodied, with flavors of blackcurrant, vanilla, and dark chocolate, supported by fine, silky tannins and a fresh, vibrant acidity. The finish is long, smooth, and inviting – truly tempting.

Ideal with grilled lamb, roast beef, or aged hard cheese . It also makes an excellent companion for a relaxed evening without a special occasion. Ready to drink now, with some aging potential for the next few years.

I had the wine at the steakhouse at

I had drunk the wine at the steakhouse at Balmer See (Usedom) and was very taken with the fruity taste, so I looked for a supplier on the internet. But as so often, at home the wine tasted good, but not as fruity as I remembered it. A pity!

Meerlust Wine Estate

Meerlust Wine Estate – a name for wines you won't forget for over 250 years. Just 15 kilometers south of Stellenbosch, barely five kilometers from False Bay. The proximity to the sea brings cool breezes and coastal fog – the grapes ripen slowly, evenly, with real depth.

In the hands of the Myburgh family since 1756. Today, Hannes Myburgh runs the estate as the eighth generation – with respect for the heritage and a clear view ahead.

The most famous wine: Rubicon. A red wine that put Stellenbosch on the world map. Powerful, elegant, with potential for many years in the cellar. South Africa as it tastes.
