Le Sol Syrah Gimblett Gravels

Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels — one of New Zealand's most distinctive red wines. The gravelly terroir in Hawke's Bay stores heat during the day and releases it at night, giving Syrah exceptional aromatic depth and structured ripeness.

Craggy Range was founded in 1997 by the Peabody family together with oenologist and Master of Wine Steve Smith. From the outset, the winery pursued a consistent single-vineyard philosophy: each vineyard is vinified separately, and each wine is intended to reflect its precise origin. Le Sol is the flagship of this concept—named after the soil that shapes this wine.

In the glass, aromas of boysenberry and dark plum emerge, underpinned by black pepper, camphor, and dry garrigue herbs. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, the body rich without feeling heavy—a balance typical of cooler Syrah vineyards. The finish is long and spicy.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, duck breast with olive tapenade, or a strong hard cheese. If opening a young wine, decant it an hour beforehand.
