Kirchenstück Riesling VDP Grand Cru

The Kirchenstück vineyard is one of the most famous Riesling sites in Rheinhessen – and this wine shows why: fruity, profound, already a pleasure, but with clear aging potential.

The vineyard is ancient. Documented even before the Thirty Years' War, the Kirchenstück vineyard lies at an altitude of 150 meters on a plateau between two churches near Hohen-Sülzen. The soil, composed of soft, calcareous stone, provides the vines with a consistent supply of nutrients despite the extremely high lime content in the subsoil – a rare combination that lends the Riesling both structure and approachability. The oldest parcels date back to the 1960s; the average age of the vines today is 35 years.

In the glass, a clear, vibrant aromatic profile unfolds: ripe white peach, citrus zest, and a hint of chalk in the background. The acidity is present but integrated – not sharp, but rather a minerally underpinned line that carries the finish. Medium-bodied, with a fine length.

Recommendation: Serve well chilled at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with pike-perch with beurre blanc, goat cheese, or a classic tarte flambée with crème fraîche. Drinking window: now until 2032.
