Joaquin Piante e Lapio Fiano Campania IGT

A dry Fiano from Campania with depth and structure: The Piante e Lapio from Joaquin shows what this old native grape variety can do when it comes from truly old vines.

The grapes grow on nearly 100-year-old vines that were planted before the phylloxera plague. Such vines bear little, but concentrated fruit. The wine is vinified and aged in second-fill chestnut wood barrels, a wood with a long tradition in Southern Italy. Because the barrels are already used, wood spice takes a back seat and the character of the grape variety remains in the foreground.

Fiano typically stands for aromas of pear, hazelnut and herbs, often with a slightly smoky note. In the mouth, the wine feels dry, with grip and substance. You will notice how much of this shows in the glass best at about 10 to 12 °C, not ice-cold.

Recommendation: Spaghetti alle vongole, grilled fish with olive oil and lemon, Mozzarella di Bufala or chicken with herbs.
