J. Trautwein - Spätburgunder Höllenbrand

J. Trautwein's Höllenbrand is a Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen that has more substance than its playful-sounding name suggests: dense, dry, with a tannin structure that provides support without being restrictive.

Rheinhessen is no longer just the home of sweet, mass-produced wines—a new generation of winemakers is working here on serious, site-specific red wines. J. Trautwein is one of those wineries that cultivate Pinot Noir with a Burgundian approach: a delicate bouquet instead of a fruit bomb, acidity as structure rather than a flaw.

In the glass, the Höllenbrand displays red fruit—sour cherry, a hint of raspberry—underpinned by subtle oak notes and a delicate spiciness in the background. The acidity is present but integrated, the tannins ripe and smooth. The finish is longer than the price would suggest.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with herb-crusted lamb loin, duck breast, or a strong goat cheese. If desired, age it for another 1–2 years in the cellar—the structure will support this.

J.Trautwein feine Weine

In a picturesque valley basin in the southern center of Rheinhessen lies Lonsheim, where the Trautwein family has been growing wine for four generations. Under the leadership of Johannes Trautwein, who presented his debut vintage in 2019, the winery consistently focuses on sustainable and natural cultivation.

By avoiding herbicides and mineral fertilizers, as well as the principle of 'controlled non-intervention' in the cellar, long-lived and characterful terroir and site-specific wines are created here.
