JJ Prüm Wehlener Sundial From GK

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is one of the great Riesling sites of the Mosel — and JJ Prüm has been its most famous interpreter for generations. This Auslese Goldkapsel shows why.

The JJ Prüm winery in Wehlen has been cultivating steep slopes on the Middle Moselle for over a century, including the southeast-facing slope of the Sonnenuhr vineyard with its blue Devonian slate. The gold capsule signifies a selection of the ripest grapes within the Auslese harvest—hand-picked, often from several passes.

In the glass, the classic Mosel style reveals itself in its playful form: pear and stewed quince carry the fruit, accompanied by honey and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the slate soil leaves its mark—a mineral coolness and a touch of green herbs like sage and mint. The acidity effortlessly supports the residual sweetness, without either element dominating. The finish is long and saline.

Serving suggestion: Well chilled at 8–10 °C. Pair now with strong blue cheese or Asian dishes with ginger and lemongrass. With a little patience—the drinking window easily extends to 2035 and beyond—additional petrol-like characteristics and even greater complexity will develop.
