Himmelspfad GG Silvaner 0.75l 2021
Silvaner from one of the best sites in Franconia — the Grosses Gewächs from the Rudolf May winery shows what the grape variety can achieve on Muschelkalk limestone: not pleasing, but exciting.
The VDP Grand Cru vineyard Himmelspfad lies near Retzstadt at an altitude of 250 meters, with slopes of up to 65%. The constant air currents delay ripening, keep the acidity vibrant, and concentrate the aromas. Rudolf May has been consistently developing this vineyard for years—the Grand Cru is his benchmark for dry, age-worthy Silvaner of the highest quality.
In the glass, the 2021 vintage displays herbs, white pepper, and a delicate spiciness reminiscent of fennel and fresh tarragon. Beneath this lies a dense, tightly woven acidity that supports the wine without being harsh. The finish is long and salty-mineral—typical of limestone Silvaner with aging potential.
