A Yorkshire Single Malt with an unusual cask history: The Filey Bay Porter Cask Finish is a special release from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, bottled at 50% ABV.

The basis is formed by selected ex-PX and ex-bourbon casks. These casks were subsequently filled with Marmalade Porter from the Wold Top Brewery before the whisky was further matured in them. Thus, sherry sweetness and bourbon vanilla meet the malty-chocolatey side of the porter.

In the glass, orange chocolate, malt, and toffee appear, along with ripe fruit and gentle oak spice. The bottling strength of 50% ABV gives the whisky structure and length on the palate.

Recommendation: neat, to explore the layers one after the other, or with a few drops of water. As a companion, a glass of porter alongside works well, picking up the malt and chocolate notes.
