The Filey Bay Double Oak Batch 1 is a Yorkshire single malt whisky that combines bourbon sweetness with fresh oak spice. It is bottled at 46% ABV and shows the distillery from an unfamiliar side.

The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in East Yorkshire relies on two maturation phases here: five years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, followed by nine months in virgin oak. The fresh wood noticeably brings spice and new fruit notes into play, while the bourbon wood counters with vanilla and toffee.

In the glass, cream soda, banana bread, pineapple candies, and toasted oak meet. On the palate, the whisky is fruity and spicy, yet round. Drink it neat at room temperature, ideally as a dram after a meal, when roasted and pastry notes come into their own particularly well. A few drops of water open up the fruity tones additionally. Those who like to compare should try it alongside a pure bourbon-cask malt to taste the influence of the virgin oak.
