Cranberry & Orange Mini Mince Pies

In Great Britain, mince pies are as much a part of the Christmas season as stollen is for us. This mini version comes from Cartwright & Butler in Great Britain: six small cakes, traditionally baked in a compact shape.

The dough is light and crumbly due to the high butter content. The filling relies on cranberries and orange oil: fruity acidity combined with a fresh citrus note that balances the sweetness and remains juicy.

Warm the pies briefly in the oven, and the dough will smell of butter and orange. They go well with tea in the afternoon, with clotted cream, or as a dessert after a festive meal. A glass of Sherry Cream or a sweet Moscato d'Asti tastes great with them.
