Corton Grand Cru

The Corton Grand Cru from Bonneau du Martray is one of the few Burgundies that comes from a single, contiguous large vineyard — a monopoly-like property on the Corton hill, where legend has it that Charlemagne already had vines growing.

Bonneau du Martray is one of the most renowned wineries in the Côte de Beaune. The Domaine focuses exclusively on the Corton mountain and produces a Pinot Noir from its sites that carries the tension and linearity typical of Corton — a structure not known from Pommard or Volnay.

In the glass, notes of plums and dark cherries, orange zest, and ripe berries appear, underpinned by cloves and an earthy sous-bois tone. The mouthfeel is taut, the tannins precise, the finish long and mineral.

Serve this Corton at 16–17 °C, preferably decanted an hour before drinking. It pairs well with Coq au Vin, venison saddle with forest mushrooms, or mature Époisses.
