Contrada Pianodario Etna Rosso Tenuta Tascante DOC Sicily 0.75L
An Etna Rosso that shows why Nerello Mascalese tastes different on the volcano than anywhere else in Sicily: cool altitude, old terraces, mineral depth.
Tenuta Tascante belongs to the Conti Tasca d'Almerita group and cultivates 99 terraces on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in the Contrada Pianodario. The hillside location ensures good ventilation and significantly lower temperatures than in the Sicilian lowlands—this gives the Nerello Mascalese a freshness and structure not always found in this grape variety.
In the glass, it displays the typical light ruby-red color of the variety. The nose offers aromas of red cherries, dried herbs, and a distinct hint of volcanic rock—this minerality is not a cliché, but genuinely perceptible. On the palate, lively acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a long, slightly smoky finish.
Serve it at 16–17 °C with grilled tuna, lamb chops with rosemary, or a mature Pecorino Siciliano. Aging it for another two to four years will bring out more complexity—but it's already very enjoyable now.
