Botran Rare Blend - Ex-Agave Cask 0.7L

The Botran Rare Blend Ex-Agave Cask is a Guatemalan rum with an unusual barrel finishing: as the final step in maturation, the blend spends time in former agave spirit barrels — a detail that clearly distinguishes it from other bottlings within the Rare Blend series.

Botran does not work with molasses, but with freshly pressed sugar cane juice from the Guatemalan highlands. The Dynamic Aging System — Botran's adaptation of the Solera principle — combines five different barrel types: Ex-American Whisky (standard and medium toasted), Ex-Oloroso-Sherry, Ex-Tawny-Port, and the final Ex-Agave barrel. Each wood station leaves its own layer in the finished rum.

In the glass, it shows a dark mahogany with golden reflections. On the nose, wood and vanilla appear first, behind which lies a subtle agave note reminiscent of dried herbs and light citrus peel. On the palate, the rum remains round without becoming cloyingly sweet; the finish is dry with a woody spice.

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a single large ice cube — both allow the agave finishing to clearly emerge.
