This Boal from Henriques & Henriques shows what Madeira can achieve after 15 years of aging: a medium-rich style where the sweetness feels integrated and the freshness carries the wine instead of making it heavy.

Henriques & Henriques is one of the well-known names on Madeira. Boal (internationally Bual) is the grape variety there for wines between semi-dry and sweet. This wine has 20% ABV and was bottled as Finest Medium Rich.

In the glass, dried fruits, caramel, and fine spices are in the foreground. Added to this are nutty and roasted tones that give the wine depth. On the palate, it remains sweet but lively, carried by clear acidity. The finish is long, warm, and precise.

Serve it slightly chilled as the end of a meal. It goes with mature hard cheese, nuts, tart, or dark chocolate and also accompanies desserts that are not too sweet.
