Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 0.75L
Biondi-Santi's Brunello di Montalcino Riserva represents what Tuscany can do at the highest level: a Sangiovese that doesn't want to please, but must convince — through structure, depth and longevity.
Biondi-Santi is not just another winery. This family from Montalcino is credited with defining Brunello as a distinct wine style—the first documented bottling dates back to the 19th century. The Riserva, the estate's highest category, is produced exclusively in exceptional vintages from old vines on their ancestral estate, Il Greppo. Sangiovese Grosso, also known here as Brunello, in its purest form.
In the glass, a ruby-red wine with a garnet-brown rim. The nose offers dried cherry, pomegranate, a hint of tar and tobacco, along with subtle earth and rosemary. On the palate, fine-grained yet present tannins, lively acidity, and a finish that lingers for minutes. Not a wine for quick enjoyment—but one that requires and rewards time.
Drinking window: from 2028 at the earliest, optimal 2030–2040+. Decanting recommended, serving temperature 17–18 °C . Classic pairings: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised wild boar leg or mature Pecorino di Pienza.
