Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 0.75L

The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Biondi-Santi stands for what Tuscany can do at the highest level: a Sangiovese that does not want to please, but must convince — through structure, depth, and longevity.

Biondi-Santi is not just one winery among many. The family from Montalcino was the first to define Brunello as an independent wine type — the first documented bottling dates back to the 19th century. The Riserva, the house's highest category, is produced exclusively in strong vintages from old vines on the Il Greppo estate. Sangiovese Grosso, also called Brunello here, in its purest form.

The glass shows a ruby red wine with a garnet-brown rim. On the nose, dried cherry, pomegranate, a hint of tar and tobacco, plus subtle earth and rosemary. Fine-grained but present tannins on the palate, lively acidity, and a finish that lingers for minutes. Not a wine for quick enjoyment — but one that needs time and rewards it.

Decanting recommended, serving temperature 17–18 °C. Classic accompaniment: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised wild boar leg, or ripe Pecorino di Pienza.
