The Barbaresco from Gaja is one of those wines you don't have to think about for long — it is one of the benchmarks of Piedmont, period. In the 1.5-liter magnum bottle, it matures more slowly and evenly than in the standard bottle, which predestines it for special occasions.

Angelo Gaja has consistently led the winery in Barbaresco to the world's elite since the 1960s. The Nebbiolo grape variety, from which the Barbaresco DOCG is exclusively vinified, grows on the calcareous tuff soils around the village of Barbaresco in the heart of Piedmont. The DOCG classification stands for strict quality requirements — minimum aging, controlled yields, exclusively Nebbiolo.

Nebbiolo from Barbaresco typically shows aromas of cherry, dried roses, and tar, along with a characteristic tannin structure that feels firm yet silky. The acidity is present, keeping the wine lively and giving it length. The finish is long, spicy, with a hint of licorice and tobacco.

Pairs with braised lamb shank, wild boar ragù, or a ripe Parmigiano Reggiano. Serving temperature: 17–18 °C — feel free to open or decant an hour before pouring so that the aromatic potential unfolds completely.
