Viñedos de Alcohuaz is an acclaimed high-altitude winery located in Chile's Elqui Valley, nestled within the Andes Mountains at elevations ranging from 1,650 to 2,206 meters. Established in 2005 by Álvaro Flaño and famously developed alongside winemaker Marcelo Retamal, the estate is dedicated to extreme-terroir viticulture with minimal intervention. Adhering to ancient winemaking traditions, their grapes—primarily Mediterranean varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Carignan—are harvested by hand and foot-trodden in granite stone lagares. This meticulous, natural approach yields highly expressive, structured mountain wines with vibrant acidity and distinct mineral characteristics.
