About MG E-Commerce

A crazy idea from Potsdam, born in a crisis

HeulNichtRum is not a classic spirits brand, but the result of an unusual moment. Marian Menzel, an entrepreneur from Potsdam, lost several projects during the coronavirus pandemic and began sifting through old internet domains he had secured during his student days. One of them was heulnichtrum.de — originally intended as a satire magazine. At the same time, an acquaintance named Thomas ran a spirits distillery in the Brandenburg region that was already producing a rum with a characterful taste. Menzel recognized the opportunity to bring the domain, product, and idea together. Thus, out of a predicament, Brandenburg's first own rum brand was born — carried by a small team that prefers to act rather than wait.

Caribbean raw materials, Brandenburg craftsmanship

The heart of every bottle of HeulNichtRum is a blend of distillates from two Caribbean islands: Jamaica provides the aromatic, fruity, ester-rich component, while Nicaragua contributes a softer, lighter rum. The mixture is then refined in the Beelitz spirits distillery near Potsdam and finished with Brandenburg craftsmanship — that is where the rum receives its final polish before it is bottled and sealed. The team deliberately keeps the exact ingredients of the spice blend a secret. For the packaging design, MG E-Commerce relies on carefully selected details: the bottle is sealed with wax and bears a label made of cotton fabric. Sustainability also plays a role in shipping — plastic packaging is deliberately avoided.

Spiced Rum with attitude — and a wink

HeulNichtRum sees itself as an alternative to faceless mass-produced goods. The copper-colored Spiced Rum with 42% ABV shows almond, caramel, and tropical fruit on the nose, accompanied by vanilla. On the tongue, mango and banana are added before caramel and almond combine to create a velvety, round overall impression. A slightly smoky note follows on the finish. In addition to the classic Caribbean Premium, the range includes limited editions such as the Wave Edition and the Black & Gold Edition — each with its own bottle design and character. Whether neat on ice or as a base for cocktails: HeulNichtRum is designed to be versatile. The name says it all — less self-pity, more rum in the glass.

HeulNichtRum –
Spiced Rum with Caribbean blend and Potsdam craftsmanship

There is more to the name than a wink: HeulNichtRum is a spiced rum with 42% ABV, which a young team from Potsdam refines in their own spirits manufactory. The base is a blend from Jamaica and Nicaragua – two origins that bring different characters: the spicy depth of Jamaican pot-still distillates meets the softer, fruity note of Nicaraguan rums.

The blend is refined with natural aromas: mango, vanilla, and a hint of caramel give the rum its accessible, yet not shallow structure. The spice in the finish lingers – not a quick pleasure, but a rum that stays in the glass. Hand-bottled in glass bottles, sealed with wax instead of plastic, labeled on cotton fabric: the packaging is as well thought out as the contents.

Neat over ice, HeulNichtRum shows its fruity aromas most clearly. It works just as well as a base for a Rum Sour or a simple highball with ginger beer – without the unique character disappearing in the mixer.
