Die Wein-Region Limestone Coast ist eine der 15 beliebtesten Anbauregionen in Südaustralien. Der größte Anteil der gesamten Wein-Produktion in Limestone Coast geht für die Herstellung der Qualitätsweine auf. Die Wein-Region teilt sich in mehrere Gebiete auf: Mount Benson, Coonawarra, Mount Gambier, Robe, Padthaway und Wrattonbully. Obwohl Coonawarra erst sehr spät entdeckt wurde, zählt es heute als das berühmteste Wein-Anbaugebiet in Australien. Die Bodenbeschaffenheit aus Kalkstein wird als außergewöhnlich und einmalig beschrieben, weshalb die Anzahl der Qualitätsweine wohl auch so hoch ist. Auf dem Kalksteinboden liegen verschiedene Auflagen, wie die berühmte “terra rossa” im Wein-Anbaugebiet Coonawarra. Aufgrund des nährstoffreichen Bodens gewinnen vor allem die roten Rebsorten an großer Bedeutung. Die Trauben Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon und Merlot dominieren an der Limestone Coast bei dem Anbau der roten Rebsorten. Bei den weißen Rebsorten dürfen für die Herstellung der hochklassigen Weine die Trauben Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier und Sauvignon Blanc nicht fehlen.
