An experience spirit with a vampire myth

Behind the Dracula brand is ALCOMIX Marken GmbH, based in Essen-Bochold, registered in the commercial register for the development, production, and distribution of spirits under its own trademark. The idea for the liqueur arose in 1982, when the company was looking for an experience spirit for the German market. The name picks up on the literary figure of Count Dracula, which in turn goes back to the historical Vlad III. Drăculea, who ruled as Voivode of Wallachia around 1448.

Things don't get bloody with the liqueur itself: the intense red color is a visual quote of the name; in fact, it comes from the mixture of black currant and cherry. What was originally intended as a bit of fun became a permanent fixture of the German party scene over the years.

Craftsmanship behind the blood red

Under the motto "We turn spirits into an experience," ALCOMIX pursues a deliberately unexcited line in production: the recipe for the Dracula liqueur has remained unchanged for more than 35 years. Currant and cherry provide the fruity-sweet base, ginger provides the characteristic spiciness in the finish – a combination that sets the liqueur apart from purely sweet party drinks.

The company acts as both a manufacturer and a wholesaler and, in addition to the core spirit, also has thematically appropriate accessories such as scary costumes in its program – an indication that the brand sees itself less as a classic traditional distillery and more as a provider for the Dracula experience.
