Spice Route Chenin Blanc
A complex nose of tropical fruits and peach, with a hint of minerality; rich and opulent on the palate with balanced acidity; fresh and fruity finish. The name Spice Route dates back to the 15th century and evokes the seafarers who braved the stormy waters of the Cape of Storms to bring exotic spices to Western Europe along the so-called Spice Road. Similarly, in 1997, Charles Back ( Fairview Winery ), Gyles Back (Thelema Winery), John Platter (wine writer), and Jabulani Ntshangase (wine pioneer and first Black winery owner) "sailed" across largely unknown soils and the extreme climate of the Swartland region and discovered an old tobacco farm called Klein Amoskuil in Malmesbury. They immediately recognized the great potential of this terroir and began cultivating vines – Spice Route Winery was born. Today, the grapes from the Swartland are processed at the Spice Route Farm in Paarl. Today, the Spice Route Winery is wholly owned by Charles Back.
