Ryoma Rhum Japonais
Ryoma is Japan's best-known rum on the European market — distilled from fresh sugar cane from Kochi Prefecture on Shikoku, a region with a subtropical climate and mineral-rich water.
Behind the distillery is Kikusui, a company with a long distilling tradition. The rum matures for seven years in oak barrels—unusually long for the category—and is bottled at 40% ABV. The result is an agricole-influenced style with a distinctly Japanese character: not a harsh, raw spirit, but a carefully balanced one.
The nose reveals vanilla, caramel, and ripe mango, underpinned by wood spices from long barrel aging. On the palate, the texture is soft and rounded, with tropical notes of pineapple and coconut, and a hint of fresh oak on the finish. The finish is medium-long, warm, and pleasantly dry.
Neat at room temperature, Ryoma unfolds its full aroma profile. With a large ice sphere, it remains light and easy to drink. It also takes center stage in cocktails—classically in a Mai Tai or in a simple Rum Sour with fresh lemon juice.
Ryoma comes from Japan – and brings with it something that still amazes the world of spirits: rum from the Land of the Rising Sun. Made from Japanese sugar cane and aged in Mizunara oak barrels, this rum bears an unmistakable signature. Fruity, smooth, with delicate wood notes – and an elegance rarely found in a rum.
