Bolgheri DOC Rosso rod 0.75L

The Rute from Guado al Melo is a classic Bolgheri Rosso with the structure of the coastal hills in the back: powerful, but without heaviness, with a freshness that is not a matter of course in this DOC.

Guado al Melo is located in the heart of Bolgheri, that strip of Tuscany between the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea, which has been considered the home of powerful red wines since the 1990s. The winery relies on a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah – a combination that has tradition in Bolgheri and corresponds well to the terroir of the loamy-sandy soils. The grapes ripen on hills that are cooled by the sea breeze, which preserves the acidity structure even in warm vintages.

In the glass, dark cherry, blackberry, and a hint of clove appear, plus a subtle pepper note that comes from the Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that makes the wine appear light-footed despite its depth. The finish is long and spicy.

Good with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, leg of lamb with rosemary, or mature Pecorino. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
